Sexually Transmitted Infections

Sexually transmitted infections, also referred to as sexually transmitted diseases (or STDs) are infections that commonly spread during sexual activity especially vaginal, anal and oral sex.

Signs and symptoms include discharge, genital rash or ulcers, and pelvic pain.

You can also have an STI with no signs or symptoms which increases the risk of passing the disease on to others. It’s important to understand that you still have the STI until it is medically treated.

Don’t be afraid to ask! That’s one of the most important things that Open Door would like you to know when it comes to talking about sexually transmitted infections (STIs). And even more important – GET TESTED!

We offer FREE STI testing.
Please call one of our clinics today to schedule testing.

PrEP: Pre-exposure prophylaxis

LET’S TALK ABOUT PREP

What is PrEP
PrEP stands for Pre-exposure prophylaxis. It is recommended for people who are at risk for HIV such as men who have sex with men, anyone who may be having sex with multiple partners, or someone who just wants to take control of their sexual health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that PrEP is 99% effective at preventing HIV in at risk populations when it is used in combination with safe sex practices.
COST
PrEP is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance plans, sliding scale or flat fee is available for qualifying indiviuals. With the current assistance programs available, most people can receive treatment with little to no out of pocket expense.
PrEP NAVIGATION
For those needing more support or information in starting PrEP, we have a team of skilled navigators who can help. A PrEP Navigator can provide in depth education about the program as well as help apply for any assistance that may be available.

It is the goal of Open Door Health Center to reduce barriers to accessing PrEP and provide high quality comprehensive care.
Make an appointment with a PrEP Navigator or Provider to discuss your options to protect yourself against HIV.
