Who Should get Tested?
The CDC recommends anyone between the ages of 12-65 who is sexually active should be tested for HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) at least once in their lifetime or more depending on their behavior. Open Door Health Center provides diagnosis and treatment as well as comprehensive education and risk reduction counseling. If you believe you may have been exposed to HIV or any other sexually transmitted infection it is important that you seek out immediate medical care.

Cost
Open Door accepts Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance plans, sliding scale or flat fee is available for qualifying individuals. Free comprehensive testing is available to the public on designated days and locations by appointment. Individuals identified as high risk may qualify for fee testing at anytime through our outreach team.

Let’s talk sexual health

Talking about sexual health can be a sensitive topic. People may have a difficult time seeking or accessing the information they need to make informed decisions about their health. Open Door Health Center provides comprehensive Outreach Services delivered by trained and certified staff and volunteers. Services are provided in both Spanish and English.

Health Education and Risk Reduction

Certified Counselors work to help people assess their own risk HIV or other sexually transmitted infections (STI), provide transmission and prevention education, and referrals to appropriate testing and supportive services.

Confidential and Anonymous Testing

In line with the National Strategy to End AIDS, our Outreach Team provides Free Rapid HIV testing to individuals at disproportionate risk for HIV AIDS. Testing is provided by state certified tester/counselors in our Aurora, Elgin and Dekalb locations or offsite. Testing at community events, schools, and organizations is available. Community Education

Open Door Health Center seeks to educate to public on topics of sexual health and wellness in the prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Our staff are available to attend community events, health fairs, provide education at local schools, shelters, juvenile justice center and work with other non-profits and businesses to provide education in a variety of settings. Open Door also provides education and workshops for professionals involved in providing services to persons living with or at risk for HIV.

LET’S TALK ABOUT PREP

What is PrEP
PrEP stands for Pre-exposure prophylaxis. It is recommended for people who are at risk for HIV such as men who have sex with men, anyone who may be having sex with multiple partners, or someone who just wants to take control of their sexual health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that PrEP is 99% effective at preventing HIV in at risk populations when it is used in combination with safe sex practices.

COST

PrEP is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance plans, sliding scale or flat fee is available for qualifying indiviuals. With the current assistance programs available, most people can receive treatment with little to no out of pocket expense.

PrEP NAVIGATION

For those needing more support or information in starting PrEP, we have a team of skilled navigators who can help. A PrEP Navigator can provide in depth education about the program as well as help apply for any assistance that may be available.
